San Diego is an excellent area to cycle, whether you are either a local or a visitor. If you’re in search of views of the ocean while taking riding along the coast, or you would like to arrange a getaway to nature There are numerous trails and bike paths throughout the region to explore.
Here are three choices that are bicycle-friendly and provide beautiful scenery.
MISSION BEACH BOARDWALK
It’s not a holiday in San Diego without a visit to the beach. The Mission Beach Boardwalk offers great views of the ocean, and is perfect for cycling.
Begin your journey from Mission Beach Park, and then head north along the boardwalk. Enjoy the easy-going ride along the way as you listen to the soothing sounds of waves and are surrounded through crowds of sun-lovers while you ride toward Crystal Pier. Once you have reached the Pier, enjoy a moment looking out over the water before returning.
Cruisers on the beach are the most popular mode of transport along this paved and flat trail. You don’t have to buy any? There are many places that rent cruisers on Mission Beach.
Visit Mission Bay…
FATHER JUNIPERO SERRA TRAIL
Relax in the natural surroundings and take an enjoyable ride on the Father Junipero Serra Trail in Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP). Begin your nature ride by parking at the MTRP Visitors Center Parking Lot and continue north along the trail, taking in the natural beauty of native fauna and flora. The trail is a continuation of the San Diego River and brings you toward the Old Mission Dam. Once you reach the dam, take a breather and enjoy a snack as you watch the water rush on by.
If you’re feeling up to it, extend your ride and turn off the road to explore some of the numerous dirt trails that are scattered throughout the park.
While the Father Serra trail is paved but the other trails aren’t, so the use of a mountain bike is highly suggested. There aren’t any bike rental shops in close proximity to MTRP therefore, you must pick up your bike prior to when you get there.
Enjoy a ride around Coronado
CORONADO
Coronado isn’t only the perfect place to stroll around in the sun or to ice skate near the beach in the winter, but it’s also great for an afternoon ride along the fairly flat 15 miles of bicycle trails on the island.
Start your journey near Ferry Landing and continue south on the route. Admire the view of San Diego’s cityscape as well as the bay as you cycle. The bike paths will also traverse the picturesque residential areas in Coronado in which you can browse through a myriad of extravagant and unique homes.
All of the routes on Coronado are paved so any kind of bike can do. There are numerous bike rental shops on the island.
Take in the sights while biking, but remain conscious of other San Diego bikers. Additionally, although adults are not required to wear a helmet (though I highly recommend it) youngsters under the age of 18 are always required to ensure their head is protected with a helmet. Be sure to stay safe and enjoy the ride !\
